Ingredients Needed:

Meat – Ground beef

Produce – Onion, minced garlic, jalapeno, green onions

Pantry – Chili seasoning, can of diced tomatoes, chicken broth, jiffy corn muffin mix, can of chili beans

Refrigerated – Eggs

Frozen – Frozen corn

Dairy – Milk, cheddar cheese, sour cream

How to Make Southern Chili & Corn Bread Skillet

Start by pre-cooking your ground beef over medium-high heat and drain any excess fat before returning to your skillet.

Next, in a large oven-safe skillet, combine your cooked ground beef, chili seasoning, red onion, minced garlic, diced tomatoes, chili beans, and chicken broth. Heat everything over high heat for 8-10 minutes.

Now, in a separate bowl, combine your jiffy corn muffin mix, eggs, and milk and stir until well mixed.

Then, stir in your corn, jalapeno, and cheddar cheese and pour over your chili mixture in the skillet.

Finally, bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 minutes until your cornbread is golden brown. Serve garnished with sour cream and green onions. Enjoy!

Prep-Ahead Instructions

In a large Ziploc bag combine the Cooked Ground Beef, Chili Seasoning, Onion, Minced Garlic, Diced Tomatoes, Chili Beans, and Chicken Broth. Seal tightly and place in the refrigerator until ready to cook.

Cooking Instructions:

Place the contents of the Ziploc Bag in a Large Skillet and heat over Medium-High Heat while you prepare the Corn Bread Mixture (Step 4 above). Pour cornbread mixture over the Chili and Bake in the oven at 375° F for 40-45 Minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 Lbs. of Ground Beef, Cooked
  • 2 Packages of Chili Seasoning
  • 1/2 Red Onion, Diced
  • 1 tsp. Minced Garlic
  • 15.5 oz. Can of Diced Tomatoes
  • 15.5 oz. Can of Chili Beans, Drained & Rinsed
  • 2 Cups Chicken Broth
  • 2 (8.5 oz.) Boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2/3 Cup. Milk
  • 1 Cup Frozen Corn
  • 2 Cups Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Jalapeno, Diced
  • 4 oz. Sour Cream
  • 1/2 Bunch Green Onions (Optional for Garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pre-Cook Ground Beef over Medium-High Heat and drain excess fat before returning the meat to the skillet.
  2. In a large Oven-Safe skillet (14" Size) combine the Cooked Ground Beef, Chili Seasoning, Red Onion, Minced Garlic, Diced Tomatoes, and Chili Beans, and Chicken Broth.
  3. Heat over Medium-High Heat for 8-10 Minutes, Stirring frequently.
  4. In a separate bowl combine the Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, Eggs, & Milk and stir until well mixed.
  5. Stir in the Corn, Jalapeno and Cheddar Cheese, and then pour over the Chili Mixture in the Skillet.
  6. Bake at 375° F for 25-30 Minutes until the cornbread is golden brown.
  7. Serve garnished with Sour Cream and Green Onions.
